SHARE! TRAINS NEW PEER WORKFORCE WITH FEDERALLY-FUNDED PROGRAM
SHARE! was awarded a large Behavioral Health Workforce Development (BHWD) contract by the federal government last summer to provide our nationally recognized Peer Support Specialist training to nearly 60 non-profits throughout California. The state will soon offer certification for peer workers, and our training is helping to prepare this new peer workforce.
SHARE!’s BHWD team also offers one-on-one training and technical support to each of the organizations. This draws from SHARE!’s Tools methodologies that help people achieve their desired goals, including job training, collaborative housing support, education, sobriety, creative pursuits, relationship and community building, and much, much more.
California is going to allow many certified peers to bill Medi-Cal, providing a funding lifeline for small organizations. SHARE! is shepherding dozens of nonprofits and their peers through the complex process of becoming eligible to bill Medi-Cal and coordinating with state officials as the process unfolds.
SHARE! has also put on two of three contracted training conferences, including the “Supervision of Peer Workforce Conference,” last month. The highly attended event included 27 presentations and brought together more than 600 registrants and leading researchers, supervisors, peers, and managers from all over the world to share and learn best practices for the supervision and delivery of peer services.
The BHWD contract continues to provide dozens of online training events related to peer-related behavioral health topics such as community building, suicide prevention, managing stigma, and ways to incorporate job readiness skills.

More than 600 registrants from 36 states and six foreign countries had a chance to learn best practices for hiring, employing, supervising, and supporting the peer workforce during SHARE!’s second BHWD virtual conference in April 2022!
